Baker-Nord Center For The Humanities

The Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities is dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and invigorating the humanities and the arts at Case Western Reserve Univeristy and throughout greater Cleveland. 

Throughout the spring 2012 semester, the Baker-Nord Center will continue its exploration of its theme “Celebrity, Fame, and the Concept of Genius.” All Baker-Nord events are free and open to the public.

Center for Policy Studies

The Center for Policy Studies stimulates greater interest in policy issues at CWRU and welcomes the public to attend its many programs.The Center sponsors the Public Affairs Discussion Group every Friday during the academic year from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Dampeer Room in the Kelvin Smith Library. Dittrick Medical History Center

The Dittrick Medical History Center is comprised of a medical history museum, archives, and collections of rare books, artifacts, and images. The public is welcome to attend its lectures at the Allen Memorial Medical Library, 11000 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio

Schubert Center for Child Studies

The Schubert Center for Child Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences works to bridge research, practice, policy, and education for the well-being of children and adolescents. The Schubert Center's 2011-2012 conversation series, Child Well Being in Challenging Times, continues with the following free, public lectures. Origins Science Scholars Program

Presented by the Institute for the Science of Origins, this unique seven-week program explores everything evolutionary, from the developing universe to emerging life to advancing medicine. Classes will take place Wednesday evenings (except for the final session) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the campus of CWRU and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The program fee is $150 and includes dinner and parking for the entire seven-week series. The fee is nonrefundable.

Members of the community will engage with each other and with leading scholars to investigate three exciting areas of origins science:

  • Atoms, Quarks and Strings: The origins and foundations of matter. March 28, April 4, April 11
  • Origins of Disease and Immunity: How evolution makes us sick. April 18, April 25, May 2
  • On the Origin of Dogs: Barking up the evolutionary tree. May 8 (Tuesday)
