Off-Campus Studies is a program offered in collaboration with the Association for Continuing Education (ACE). Courses are 8 weeks long and meet in locations throughout greater Cleveland and extend to Akron and Lorain. The program is distinguished by its discussion-based format based on common readings. There are no written assignments or exams; rather the classes provide an open environment for lively discussion based on meaningful examination of shared texts. Expert Leader-Teachers (LT) facilitate the discussion and provide academic background and context.
Off-Campus Studies is unique among continuing education programs because it is organized and designed in part by its participants. The discussion groups select the courses with the help of the Class Coordinator and the Office of Continuing Education. Participation is open to everyone and groups welcome new members with enthusiasm.
Class Coordinators (CC) are volunteers who serve as the liaison between the Office and the study groups. They are the contacts for the classes and they invite inquiries. Please call them for more information about particular classes.
The Office of Continuing Education also welcomes the formation of new groups. Please call 216-368-2090 if you would like to establish a study group in your neighborhood. Courses require a minimum of twelve participants.
The Winter sessions begin the week of January 15, 2012. Class meetings are held once per week and meet for one and a half hours. The last week of classes is March 4-9, 2012. Spring clases begin the week of March 18 and end the week of May 6. There are some exceptions, so please read the listings carefully.
Fee: $70 per eight-week session
